Bio

Viktor Kalvachev is an artist, illustrator, comic creator, and art director whose career spans comics, animation, video games, publishing, and visual development.

His career began in Bulgaria, where, at the age of 24, he produced and art directed one of the largest original vector art productions of its kind, leading a team of 200 artists and overseeing the creation of more than 60,000 original images in a single year. After earning his master’s degree from the National Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia, he moved to Los Angeles to continue his career in the entertainment industry.

Since then, Viktor has worked with and for companies including Pixar, Disney, Netflix, DC Entertainment, Nickelodeon, Marvel, Warner Bros., Electronic Arts, Riot Games, Moon Active, HOMA Games, and others. His work has crossed many disciplines, from character design and visual development to comics, games, animation, art direction, and creative leadership.

In comics, Viktor was commissioned by Kevin Eastman to create the 78-page graphic novel PHERONE for Heavy Metal Magazine, launching his career in the medium. He has since contributed to titles including Stranger Things, Batman Beyond, Wonder Woman, B.P.R.D., Men of War, DMZ, and Green Arrow, among others.

His creator-owned comic Blue Estate remains one of his most ambitious personal projects. The series earned him two Eisner Award nominations, for Best Cover Artist and Best Colorist, and was recognized for its unusual visual approach: weaving the work of 13 different artists into one cohesive narrative language, with the art style shifting to reflect changes in story, tone, and perspective — sometimes within a single page or panel.

After the successful Kickstarter campaign for INSPIRE, Viktor continued working across some of the most visible projects in games and animation. He collaborated with Moby Francke on character design for Riot Games’ VALORANT, contributed character design work to Netflix’s Emmy Award-winning anthology Love, Death & Robots, and developed an original short film project for the series as a potential director.

He later joined Moon Active, one of the world’s leading mobile game companies, as Senior VP of Art and Creative, helping raise the visual standard across major titles including Coin Master, Travel Town, and other projects. He is currently Senior VP of Art at HOMA Games in France, where he leads the company’s efforts to bring stronger visual quality, art direction, and creative standards across its portfolio, including All in Hole.

Alongside his studio work, Viktor has taught, lectured, and given workshops around the world at private and public events including THU and LightBox Expo. He is also the instructor of DECONSTRUCTED: Drawing People with Viktor Kalvachev on Schoolism, a course focused on breaking down the human figure, character, gesture, and visual storytelling through drawing.

His art book INSPIRE collects years of drawings, paintings, digital work, and sketchbook studies created while living in Paris. It brings together the observational drawing, character work, imagination, and visual rhythm that have shaped his career across comics, animation, and games.
